2017 Miss Mount Washington Valley Teen Crowned
Bartlett – The 2017 Miss & Mr. Mount Washington Valley Teen Scholarship Pageants were held on Sunday, April 30th at the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel in Bartlett. Teens representing Bartlett, Conway, Madison, North Conway, and Stoneham competed in the 278th year of this scholarship program.
A month of rehearsals led up to the day-long event. During the morning, contestants participated in Interview and Public Speaking competitions. During the afternoon, they rehearsed and assisted with the Princess Academy. The evening’s program, emceed by Jessica Hodgkins, began with a presentation of coronets for Princess Academy graduates, then progressed to the Formal Wear competition and the optional Talent competition. More than $2,000 was won by the participants.
When the judge’s scores were tallied, 2016 Miss MWV Teen, MacKenzie Herlihy, placed the 2017 crown on the head of 18 year old Courtney J. Barrows, of Madison. The daughter of Crystal Barrows, of Madison and Ken Barrows, of Bartlett, Courtney is a Senior at Kennett High School, with plans to attend UNH in the fall. Barrows was also presented with the Contestant’s Award.
Brianna H. Goldblatt, First Runner-Up, is the daughter of Eric and Terri Goldblatt. A freshman at Kennett High School, Brianna is 14 years old and lives in Conway. She also was named Sales Champion.
Second Runner-Up, Audra J. Hamlin, lives in Stoneham and is the daughter of Megan and Martin Hamlin. She is 15 years old and a freshman at Fryeburg Academy. She also took the award for Commitment.
Cosette C. Brochu, of North Conway, received the Host Award, Cheyanne H. Roy, of Glen, was presented with the award for Personal Growth. Aurora L. Spaid-Thoresen was named Director’s Award winner.
The Talent Award went to Julian Broch, of North Conway. Brochu and Billy F. Davis, of Conway, were each awarded scholarships as the inaugural Mr. Mount Washington Valley Teen contestants.
The 2017 Mount Washington Valley Teen Scholarship Program was sponsored by Mount Washington Valley Promotions, The Grand Summit Hotel & Conference Center, North Conway Community Center, Rotary Club of North Conway, Anna Stickney Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and The UPS Store of North Conway.
